Ear wax, also known as cerumen, is a sticky and brown colored substance produced by the ear glands to protect the most delicate part of the inner ear. It is formed naturally to protect the ears from bacteria and other external agents acting as a lubricant agent to the ear ans its canal. 

Ear wax has to be removed from time to time because its over accumulation may cause irritation, feeling of fullness, itching, partial loss of hearing, ear ache, discharge from the ear, etc. Sometimes, the ear wax travels from the ear canal to the ear opening which can be cleaned easily. Over accumulation of cerumen can cause ear blockage and many people try to remove it by using pins or sharp edged needles. This is very dangerous and may push the wax deep inside the inner layers of the ear canal which cannot be removed.

People who use more of ear phones or hearing aids are more likely to suffer from ear blockages. There are few home remedies to remove the wax from the ears easily……


1. Salt water:salt water

Mix 1 tsp of salt in a glass of warm water and let it dissolve. Now soak a cotton ball in it and sqeeze upto 5 drops in the blocked ear and let it go deep inside the ear. Lie down with the blocked ear facing upside for atleast 3 to 5 minutes. Now turn the ear downwards so that wax can drain off from the ear naturally.

 2. Olive oil:

Take 1.5 tsp of olive oil and drop it in the blocked ear and lie down facing the ceiling for 5 minutes. Later flip onto the other side to drain off the wax from the ear.

 3. Hydrogen peroxide: Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is an effective home remedy for treating the over accumulation of ear wax easily. Add equal amounts of hydrogen peroxide and water in a bowl. Now add few drops of this solution in the blocked ear and leave it for some time. Later on drain off the loosen wax from the ear with ease and you can also clean it with a cotton ball that has come out at the ends of the ear.

 4. Vinegar and rubbing alcohol:Vinegar and rubbing alcohol

A traditional home remedy for removing the excess wax from the ear is vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Alcohol acts as a drying agent and vinegar fights against any bacteria or fungi which causes infections in the ear. These two when mixed dissolves the wax accumulated in the ear and helps to clear off the ear naturally.

5. Almond oil:  Almond oil

Almond oil helps to clear up the accumulated wax and removes the blockage. Soak a cotton ball in the almond oil and squeeze it in the ear in which the wax has to be removed. Let it sit fr few minutes so that it loosens the wax. After 5 minutes, flip the ear the other side to remove the wax from the ear and clean it with the cotton around and near the outer part of the ear.

6. Warm water: Warm water

You can also pour some warm water which is at body temperature. Fill a pillar with a warm water and squeeze it in the affected ear to dislodge the ear wax from the ear. Note that you use clean and filtered water to remove the wax easily. Now tilt your head to the opposite direction to drain off the ear wax from the ear after few minutes.


These are few effective and simple to use home remedies for removing the ear wax from the ear with out using any ear straps or sharp needles to drain the wax. Use these simple tips to unblock the ear and feel comfortable.
